Thread of Transformation

Artst Statement

Our destinies are shaped by our choices.  Transformation of the Mundane (tentative show title) reflects my journey of transforming the inconsequential to transcend the mundane. My work aligns with my outlook and approach to life, seeking growth and evolution of otherwise ordinary materials and objects. Amid chaos, I find refuge in the space between my hands. The tactile nature of my slow, repetitive, and laborious process allows me to reflect and meditate.

I consciously chose simple and repetitive methodologies to explore nuance and discovery. I am drawn to the sculptural quality of the textile dyeing technique known as Shibori. Traditionally, Shibori is used to create patterns on cloth. Various methods are employed to gather, stitch, or bind the fabric, forming resistance for surface treatments that result in unique dyed patterns. While I have been exploring the sculptural possibilities of Shibori to add dimensionality to fabric remnants for over a decade, I continue to discover creative sculpting nuances.

My work embodies the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic, which celebrates the beauty of imperfection.  Transformation depicts a narrative of personal experience through unique expressions of the artist's touch.
